Its a Twitter-iffic Week
So I realize I’ve been chatting up Twitter quite a bit this week, but it seems that its becoming quite the monster out there in the ever changing online social realm. This little article talks about the rapid growth its seen in just a few short months. Right now 11% of all American’s who’re categorized as being ‘online’ (not sure what precisely that means, because its not like the internet is something we devote time to participate in, its something that just encompasses our everyday at this point, but whatever.. that’s another discussion) are using Twitter. This is up from 9% in Nov and 6% from last May. That’s huge. It goes without saying that the general audience seems to be sitting at a younger base, we’re talking approximately 18-24, which only makes sense. I think the concept of ’social networking’ has a broader appeal to a wider range (ie: Facebook avg age is 27 and LinkedIn averages around 40), but tools like micro-blogging really do connect with that younger audience simply in that its become today’s version of “Hey, what’s going on?” You can literally follow what your friends are up to, reply to friend posts, post quick pics and vids all from the convenience of your mobile phone (or any other ‘online’ device… but lets be serious, its happening predominantly from the mobile space). Its taking the concept of txt msg to a new level. Hit all your friends at once with a simple click, and without the potential extra txt fee for when you inevitably go over your allotted monthly minutes.. am I right?
Anyway, just another chunk of thought dropping. Its fun to see it all changing so quickly.
